This great tasting Limited Edition Ugandan 70% Dark Chocolate Bar is made from a single origin cacao harvest, hand selected by our Master Chocolate Makers. Uganda is landlocked, ethnically diverse and home to half of the world's mountain gorilla population, but most importantly for us, it hosts an abundance of flora and fauna, providing the ideal climate for growing cocoa beans. At Harris & James, we are passionate about quality and sustainability and we do things very differently. Something that sets us above other artisan chocolate makers is our dedication to bean to bar chocolate making. Only 1% of chocolate globally is made this way and we are proud to go the extra mile. By sourcing direct from a cooperative of roughly 600 smallholder farmers in the Bundibugyo region, we can ensure above Fair Trade pricing and full traceability. This cooperative offers the farmers the opportunity to improve their standard of living, which includes guaranteeing free, proper education for all of its members' children (in a country where over half the population are under 16). We use a specialty buyer who is able to choose the very best cacao beans direct from the farmers, which not only means that they get an above market price for their cacao, promoting great quality, but it also means we get the freshest beans which we then roast low and slow, batch cooking to release the amazing flavours which are unique to Ugandan Cacao. When you pull back the foil on these bars and snap our glossy dark chocolate, you can expect aromas of roasted hazelnuts, sesame and yellow fruits, combined with the sweetness of toffee and dates.
